Babson Park, MA ---- Babson (11-8, 2-1) pounded out 10 hits in a 7-3 win over WPI (11-8, 2-1) in NEWMAC baseball action on Saturday at Govoni Field. Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, game two will be played tomorrow due to the weather conditions. 

Babson's Thomas Lapham (Charlestown, MA) drove in a pair of runs and was one of four Beavers to tally two hits in the game. WPI's Jacob Hand (Niskayuna, NY) led the Engineer offense with a pair of extra-base hits, including his team-leading sixth homerun of the season. 

The Beavers, playing as the visitors, scored in each of the first four at-bats piling on a 7-0 advantage after three and a half innings. 

Babson took advantage of a pair of WPI errors in the top of the first, plating an unearned run to lead 1-0. 

In the top of the second, a leadoff walk to Babson's Jackson Kelly (Wenonah, NJ) scored on a Walter Sadowsky (Morristown, NJ) double down the left-field line. Brant Savage (Charlton, MA) then drove home Sadowsky with a single to center. The Beavers later made it 4-0 on an RBI groundout from Sean Burychka (Mount Laurel, NJ). 

A solo shot from Kelly in the top of the third inning pushed the Babson lead to 5-0. 

Two runs on four hits in the top of the fourth set the Beavers' lead to 7-0. Savage singled and Jack Pirkl (Brightwaters, NY) doubled to start the inning before a Lapham single through the right side plated the pair as Babson led by seven. 

WPI finally dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the lead to 7-2. A Hand double put runners on second and third with one out, before Joe Salvon (Longmeadow, MA) sent a sacrifice fly to center to score Kyle Johns (Milltown, NJ). Hand later scored on a wild pitch, but a fly out limited the damage as the Engineers still trailed by five. 

Hand launched a homerun to left in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the Babson advantage to 7-3, but that was the last run for either team as the Beavers held on for the win. 

Anthony St. John (Hopewell, NJ) got the victory, throwing eight innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts. William Cournan (Pembroke, MA) threw a hitless, scoreless inning in relief. 

WPI's Everett Wonson (York, ME) took the loss, going four innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits. Joseph Peregrim (Watervliet, NY) threw four scoreless innings, allowing two hits, while Henry Sniezek (Adams, MA) got in one inning of work, not allowing a hit. 

Tomorrow's game will start at noon at Babson.
