SALISBURY, Md. – The 11th-ranked Salisbury University baseball team slugged five home runs on the way to a 29-1 thrashing of the Marymount (Va.) Saints for its ninth win in a row on Monday afternoon at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Sea Gulls got the ball rolling in the second inning. Jacob Ference got hit by a pitch with one out and went first-to-third on a Scott Cameron single. Ben Anderson then lined a base hit into right, scoring Ference and moving Cameron up to third. Luke Weddell came up next and laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to bring home Cameron and put SU up 2-0.
• Kavi Caster belted a one-out solo home run to right center in the third, then after Stephen Rice singled, Sky Rahill clubbed his own two-run homer to virtually the same place that Caster did, powering the Sea Gulls to a 5-0 lead.
• Ryo Fabre answered for the Saints with a solo homer in the top of the fourth, cutting the SU advantage to 5-1.
• The Sea Gulls kept the power going in the bottom of the fourth. With two on and no out, Caster hit a laser beam three-run homer to right, his second of the day, to make it 8-1. Rice followed with a single, then two batters later Ference singled Rice over to third, and Cameron brought Rice home with a sac fly. Anderson followed with a line drive two-run shot to right to make it 11-1.
• Weddell missed a home run by inches, banging a double off the top of the right center wall, then Cameron Hyder singled him home. After a Patrick Campbell single put men on the corners, Caster legged out an infield hit to score Hyder, making it an eight-run fourth and a 13-1 Sea Gull lead.
• In the fifth, Cameron cracked a two-run homer to dead center for Salisbury's fifth round-tripper of the day, kickstarting a nine-run inning that saw runs score on a bases-loaded walk to Campbell, Caster two-run double, two straight bases-loaded walks to Rahill and Ference and Cameron RBI fielder's choice. Rahill scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring and make it 22-1.
• The Sea Gulls batted around for a third straight inning in the sixth, plating five runs on a Trent Saunders single, Rahill two-run double, Zach Geesaman RBI groundout and a wild pitch that brought Rahill home to make it 27-1.
• Salisbury plated its final two runs in the eighth on an Anderson bases-loaded walk and Weddell RBI single, giving the game its final 29-1 margin.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Kavi Caster turned in a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored and a career-high seven RBIs. Caster now has 23 extra-base hits in 28 games this season.
• Newly-minted Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Player of the Week Sky Rahill extended his hitting streak to 18 games and then some, going 2-for-5 with a double, homer, five RBIs and five runs scored.
• Scott Cameron homered for the third straight game and fifth time this season, going 2-for-3 with a dinger, two runs and four RBIs.
• Ben Anderson finished 2-for-5 with his third home run of the season, driving in four runs and scoring two.
• Cameron Hyder pushed his own long hitting streak to 12 games, going 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and four runs scored.
• Luke Weddell went 4-for-6 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
• Salisbury knocked on the door of 30 runs for the second time this season after beating St. Mary's (Md.) 28-6 on March 30. The Sea Gulls' 29 runs are their most in a game since hanging 34 on Gwynedd Mercy on March 24, 2016.
• Xavier Marmol (4-0) cruised to his fourth victory of the season, allowing one run on three hits in seven innings. Marmol walked none and struck out four on 83 pitches.
• Aaron Combs fired a scoreless eighth inning, while Robbie Hollenbeck worked a scoreless ninth to finish the job.

MARYMOUNT GAME NOTES

• Ryo Fabre's solo home run in the fourth accounted for the Saints' only run of the game.
• Bryce Smith and Jimmy Baker each added singles to account for MU's three hits.
• Clint Wheeler (1-1) took the loss after surrendering five runs on five hits in three innings.
