SALISBURY, Md. – Undone by a seven-run ninth, the eighth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team saw its 12-game winning streak come to an end, falling to the Wilson Phoenix in a back-and-forth 9-7 affair on Friday afternoon at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Phoenix peeled off a run in the top of the first inning. Brandon Cook legged out a one-out infield single and then went first-to-third on a Michael Marrale base hit. Gerald Buchanan followed with an RBI single to put Wilson on top 1-0.
• Cameron Hyder was plunked to lead off the bottom of the first but got picked off by catcher Marrale on the next pitch. The Sea Gulls then loaded the bases with three walks, but Jacob Ference flew out to deep left with two down to retire the side and waste a 31-pitch inning from Wilson starter Cam Nolet.
• Wilson scraped another run across in the fourth. Haden Hoff beat out a one-out infield hit and advanced to second on a groundout. Doc Daniels then blooped a single into shallow center, scoring Hoff to make it 2-0.
• Nolet retired 14 Sea Gulls in a row before Patrick Campbell rolled a one-out single up the middle in the sixth for Salisbury's first hit. Kavi Caster drew a walk and Stephen Rice singled through the right side to get Campbell home. Sky Rahill walked to load the bases for Ference, who lashed a two-run single into right center to push Salisbury ahead 3-2.
• In the seventh, Campbell was hit by a pitch with one out and Caster doubled to put men in scoring position. After a foul out and a walk to load the bases with two out, Ference hit a grounder to third that Daniels booted, allowing Campbell to score. Scott Cameron followed by rolling a two-run single through the right side, making it 6-2 Sea Gulls.
• Down four, the Phoenix erupted with a big rally in the top of the ninth. Marrale led off with a single, then two batters later Hoff bounced a double over the wall in center to put men on second and third. Brady Andre came up next and dunked a single into left, scoring Marrale to get Wilson back within 6-3.
• Daniels followed with his own RBI single to make it 6-4 and put the tying runs on base with one out. After a lineout to right, Dylan Procopio reached on a bad throw from short to extend the game and load the bases. K.J. Curry fought back from an 0-2 count to walk and force in a run, then Cook hit a soft liner into center that Caster dove for but couldn't hold on to, allowing the tying and go-ahead runs to score to put Wilson in front 7-6.
• With men on the corners, Cook and Curry executed a double steal to score another run, and Marrale punctuated the seven-run ninth with an RBI double, giving the Phoenix a 9-6 advantage.
• Salisbury put together its own rally and had a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with no out on two hit batsmen and a walk. Cameron then became the third Sea Gull hit by a pitch in the inning, which forced in a run to make it 9-7.
• Ben Anderson came up next and hit a low liner to short that Curry snagged and flicked over to second, forcing the runner out for a backbreaking double play. Luke Weddell then popped out to second, giving Wilson a stunning come-from-behind victory.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Scott Cameron finished 1-for-4 with three RBIs, and Jacob Ference drove in two runs on a 1-for-4 day.
• Stephen Rice went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
• Kavi Caster doubled for the Sea Gulls' only extra-base hit, finishing 1-for-3 with two runs and two walks.
• Patrick Campbell finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while Sky Rahill walked four times and scored a run.
• Corey Burton (0-1) took his first loss of the season after the tying and go-ahead runs in the ninth were charged to him.
• Jimmy Adkins went seven innings of two-run, six-hit ball in a no-decision. Adkins tied his season high with 10 strikeouts and walked none on 104 pitches.

WILSON GAME NOTES

• Brandon Cook finished 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base to pace the Phoenix.
• Michael Marrale went 3-for-5 with a double, run and RBI from the three-hole.
• Haden Hoff finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Doc Daniels went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
• Cam Nolet surrendered three runs on three hits over 5.2 frames in his own no-decision, walking six and fanning two.

• The Sea Gulls hit the road for the next four games in a row, starting on Tuesday afternoon at Catholic.
• Salisbury was originally scheduled to play at home against Gallaudet on Tuesday; that game has been canceled.
• First pitch from Washington, D.C. is set for 3:30 p.m.
