How It Happened:

Myers was out on a close safety squeeze, but Smith scored to make it 5-2. A single by Iannuzzi moved Bush to third. A sacrifice fly by sophomore Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) plated Bush to make it a two-run game. A double by sophomore Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) brought home Iannuzzi as the Yellow Jackets pulled within one at 5-4.
  • R-MC took the lead in the seventh. Bush had a leadoff double to right and scored the tying run on a single by Myers. Cole reached on a fielder's choice that cut down Myers at second. Cole went to second on a single by Webb, moved to third on an error and scored on a bases-loaded walk to junior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) as the Yellow Jackets went up 6-5.
  • VWU had a double and a single to start the top of the ninth. A stolen base put two in scoring position with none out. Bush handled a tough hop and got the out at first, but the runner from third scored to knot the score at 6-6 and put the go-ahead run on third. Sophomore Cole Snead (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) got a strikeout looking and a groundout to keep the game deadlocked. R-MC put two on in the bottom of the ninth but could not score to force the extra frame.
  • Snead got a foul out and two strikeouts in the top of the 10th to give the Yellow Jackets a second chance for a walk-off victory. Freshman Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) delivered a pinch-hit single to start the bottom of the 10th. Smith's sacrifice bunt was mishandled, putting Lautenschlager at second and Smith at first. Bush beat out a bunt single, loading the bases with none out.
