#7 Rowan Earns NJAC Regular-Season Crown with Sweep of Kean, 4-3 and 8-7 on Senior Day

GLASSBORO, NJ – Seventh-ranked Rowan swept #16 Kean, 4-3 and 8-7, to earn the NJAC regular-season crown and the top seed in this week's NJAC Championship. The Profs, winners of their last nine games, are now 30-6 and finish the league slate with a 15-2 mark.
 
Rowan will host sixth-seeded Ramapo on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the first round of the double elimination NJAC Championship. The remainder of the tournament will be held at Kean on Friday through Sunday, May 5-7.

NJAC CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET
 
Rowan closer Christian Bascunan recorded the saves in both games to give him 10 on the season, to set a new school record.
 
Chris Curcio drove in the game-winning run in the first game and Patrick Defeciani had the game-winning hit in the second-game victory.
 
GAME 1
Rowan won the opener, scoring four runs on just three hits and taking advantage of three Kean errors.
 
The Profs opened by scoring two in the second, as Hunter Wroniuk led off with a single and Eric DiDomenico was hit by a pitch. Trip McCaffrey reached base on an error that allowed Wroniuk to score. And Rowan added another on a double steal as DiDomenico crossed the plate to go up 2-0.
 
Kean scored one in the third and took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run home by Brett Hilsheimer, but the Profs tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth when Ryan Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to score McCaffrey.
 
DiDomenico was hit by a pitch in the seventh and eventually advanced, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Curcio.
 
Jason O'Neill (7-1) went 8.0 innings to earn the win as he struck out three on the day. Bascunan entered in the ninth and although Kean got one hit, he shut them down to earn the record-tying save.
 
GAME 2
Tyler Cannon went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Curcio was also 3-for-4 and drove in a run to lead the Profs to the second-game victory that clinched the regular-season title.
 
Starter Donald Zellman went 6.0 innings and was relieved by Mike Shannon, and then Dylan Maria, who earned his first win as a Prof. Bascunan struck out two in the ninth to earn the record-breaking save.
 
Rowan jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring two in the second on a sacrifice fly by DiDomenico and a fielder's choice by McCaffrey. Schooley reached base on an error in the third to allow Defeciani to score and in the fourth, Curcio singled to bring in DiDomenico.
 
Kean's Lapcyznski hit a three-run double in the fifth and then Marcantonio singled to allow the Cougars to tie the score at 4-4.
 
Rowan inched ahead in the bottom of the inning as Tyler Cannon singled to bring in Ryan Mostrangeli, who had also singled. DiDomenico walked with the bases loaded to allow Schooley to cross the plate, giving the Profs a 6-4 lead.
 
Kean fought back again, taking the lead with three runs in the seven inning, to go up, 7-6.
 
Rowan got the tying run in the seventh as Cannon singled again to allow Mostrangeli to score.
 
With two outs in the eighth, Defeciani had the game-winner as he doubled to left field to bring home McCaffrey who led off reaching base as he was hit by a pitch.
 
Rowan's seniors- Bascunan, Ryan Bush, David Levin, McCaffrey, Patrick Sudnikovich, Wroniuk, DiDomenico, Mostrangeli, Zellman were honored prior to the first game on "Senior Day".
