Record-Breaking Baseball Season Ends At NCAA Tournament

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College baseball team saw their incredible record-breaking season come to an end with a heart-breaking 10-8 defeat to Mitchell College on Saturday morning in an elimination game of the NCAA Regional Tournament at McGill Field. 

The Dutchmen finished the year with a program-record 30 wins and the program's first conference title in 20 years and second overall. LVC (30-16) struck first with three runs in the third. Mitchell (31-12) responded with eight runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-3 lead. The teams traded runs and the Mariners led 10-5 heading into the ninth inning. Lebanon Valley didn't go quietly as they fought back for three runs in the ninth and had the tying run at the plate when the final out was made.

Inside the Box Score

  • Nico Santoro had two hits to finish with a program-record 68 on the season. He knocked in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly and then singled to left in the fourth to plate another run.
  • Jace Fetterman knocked in the second run with a single through the left side and finished with two hits and a run scored.
  • Conor Smith also had two hits and scored two runs in the game.
  • Ryan Murphy was the fourth Dutchman with a multi-hit game and scored three times.
  • Luke Blair started the ninth inning scoring with a double down the line in right to knock in Smith. Ethan O'Loughlin then knocked in two runs with a single up the middle.
  • The Dutchmen used six different pitchers in the game. Tanner Rock, Bryce Eberly, and Tony Bennage struck out two batters each while Brendan Landry struck out one.
  • Jacob Horton and Malachi Duka combined for two innings of effective relief.
  • This was the first-ever meeting between the programs.
