Brockport Lands Three on D3Baseball.com All-Region Team; Kretzler Named Region 3 Player of the Year

Three members of the nationally-ranked No. 23 SUNY Brockport baseball team were named to the D3Baseball.com All-Region 3 Team and Tom Kretzler was named the Region 3 Player of the Year in a release by the highly popular division III baseball website on Tuesday morning.  Joining Kretzler on the All-Region First Team are outfielder Nicholas Pastore and starting pitcher Andrew Huffman.  Brockport's three first team selections were the most from a single team in the region.

Brockport capped its 2022 campaign just one win shy of the school-record as the Golden Eagles finished with a 33-11 overall record and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Championships.  Brockport earned the right to host an NCAA Regional for the first time in program-history.  The Golden Eagles placed second in the SUNYAC Conference Tournament after knocking off regular season champion Oswego and they finished their season with two tight losses in the NCAA regional against fellow national powers Baldwin Wallace and Wheaton.

Tom Kretzler is the first player in program-history to earn a D3baseball.com Regional Player of the Year honor.  He was the first player in program-history to win consecutive SUNYAC Player of the Year honors and he is just the third player in the history of the award to accomplish the feat.  He has been named all-region twice and he is a four year SUNYAC All-Conference pick. He is just the fourth player in program-history to be named the SUNYAC Player of the Year. He capped his final season ranked 13th nationally and first in the conference with five complete games on the mound. He led the SUNYAC and ranked 31st nationally with a 2.10 ERA. He's also eighth in the nation with 17 home runs and 16th nationally with 63 RBIs. His 133 total bases ranks 13th nationally. 

Kretzler finished his career at Brockport after six years as a Golden Eagles as the record holder in games played (178), single season slugging percentage (.792), career hits (202), single season hits (62), career doubles (47), career home runs (38), single season home runs (17), career RBIs (160), single season RBIs (63), career runs scored (156) and runs in a single season (46). He also ranks second in the record books for triples in a career (11), sixth in career slugging percentage (.556),  third for most strikeouts in a single season (71), tied for 5th for most wins by a pitcher in a single season (seven). and he is tied for 9th in career wins (11).

Huffman earned his first career all-region selection after a dominant season as the Golden Eagle's pitching ace.  Earlier this Spring, he was the first player in program-history to earn the SUNYAC Don Axtell Pitcher of the Year award.  He is now a two-time all-conference selection after being named to the second team in 2021. Huffman finished the year ranked in the top 100 nationally and second in the conference with a 2.72 ERA.  He finished 24th nationally and first in the conference with a school-record 96 strikeouts this year and he ranks in the top 50 nationally with an average of 11.89 strikeouts per nine innings. His eight wins on the mound this year led the SUNYAC. He appeared in 12 games for Brockport and pitched 72.2 innings, holding opponents to a .216 batting average.  In three seasons in the green and gold he has 18 appearances and 13 wins in 115.2 innings pitched.
 
Nicholas Pastore earned his first career all-region selection after making his second straight appearance on a SUNYAC all-conference team this Spring. Pastore finished the season ranked third on the team with a .338 batting average and he led the SUNYAC with nine triples.  He posted 52 hits, 41 runs scored, 17 stolen bases, six home runs and nine doubles.  Pastore is the college's all-time record holder in career triples (12) and triples in a single season (nine). He has appeared in 111 career games and has 91 runs scored, 124 hits, nine home runs and 77 RBI's.

As first team selections, Kretzler, Huffman and Pastore are now eligible for D3Baseball.com All-American honors. The All-American teams are scheduled to be released in early June.
