Maysonave homers twice, LETU downs Millsaps 14-9

JACKSON, Miss. -- Even with an early start time, the bats were working for the LeTourneau baseball team on Saturday.

With the start time moved up an hour due to impending rain, LeTourneau banged out 18 hits and took the final game of the series with a 14-9 victory over Millsaps on Saturday at Twenty Field in Jackson.

LeTourneau (1-2) scored all 14 runs over a five-inning stretch. The win was also the first career college coaching victory for first-year head coach Paul Phillips.

Seven different YellowJackets recorded multi-hit games, led by Kyle Maysonave's two-homer and three-hit effort as he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Cameron Pfafman was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Cole ThompsonDane JonesAndrew KlingensteinLane Williams, and Carlos Flores Jr. all had two hits apiece.

Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, LeTourneau grabbed the lead with two runs thanks to RBI hits from Maysonave and Jones. The YellowJackets scored twice more in the fourth to go ahead 4-1 as Williams delivered an RBI single after Pfafman scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the fourth, defense was the name of the game for LeTourneau. Jones threw out a runner trying to score from center field to keep Millsaps off the board before Thompson made a diving catch in right field to end the frame after the Majors loaded the bases with two outs.

Maysonave hit the first of his two home runs in the fifth, a solo shot to left field, to extend the lead to 5-1. His second homer came in the ninth, a two-run blast to center field, as Maysonave became the first YellowJacket to hit two homers in a game since 2021.

After a two-run sixth, highlighted by Flores and Thompson RBI singles, the YellowJackets scored five times in the seventh to grab a 12-4 lead. Klingenstein produced a two-run single in the seventh while Ron Gardner, Williams, and Flores all had run-scoring hits.

Riley Davis made his season debut on the mound and threw four innings allowing one run on five hits in the start. Will Bond (1-0) received the win in relief.

Ryan Laiche (0-1) got the loss for Millsaps after LeTourneau tagged him for three earned runs over two innings. The Majors had 15 hits in the loss as Austin Arceneaux went 4-for-6.
