MC Records Season-High 17 Hits; Series Resumes Sunday

MARYVILLE – Maryville slugged its way to victory on Friday night, taking down Hanover 16-5 at Scotland Yard.
 
The Scots recorded 17 hits in the seven-inning matchup. All nine MC starters picked up at least one knock, with seven recording multiple hits. Shortstop Jacob Johnston led the squad going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, and a team-high four runs scored.
 
Maryville's power surge continued, as the Scots picked up two home runs in the contest. MC now has 10 home runs in just seven games.
 
Zach Graham hit the first long ball of the game in the bottom of the first inning to put the Scots ahead 3-2. He finished the matchup 2-for-4, also picking up a double and driving in a team-high four runs while scoring two of his own. The third baseman has five homers on the year and is just two round-trippers away from tying his career high of seven from last season.

Zach Fritts hit the other home run for Maryville, going deep in the bottom of the fifth to put MC ahead 13-5.
 
10 of Maryville's 17 hits went for extra bases. The Scots picked up seven doubles, a triple, and two home runs.
 
Gabriel Lopez has hit safely in all seven games this season. Dating back to 2022, Lopez has a nine-game hitting streak. During that stretch, the Senior from Naples, Florida, is 17-for-37 (.459) and has recorded two homers, two triples, and five doubles, good for a slugging percentage of 1.882.

Chris Arbuthnot (2-0) entered the game in the fourth inning and earned the win for MC after pitching four innings. The righty allowed just one run on four hits while striking out a season-high seven batters. In 8 1/3 innings this season, Arbuthnot has allowed just one run and has struck out 10 batters. He is tied with Bryce Leonhardt for the team lead in appearances with three.
 
Leonhardt got the start for Maryville, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two in three innings pitched.
 
The Scots have the day off on Saturday before returning to action against Hanover in a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch for that matchup is scheduled for 1 p.m.
