Snelsire Sparks RMC Baseball to DH Sweep of Alvernia

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Hayden Snelsire (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener with nine strikeouts as the Randolph-Macon baseball team swept a doubleheader from Alvernia on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened: Game 1

  • After loading the bases and failing to score in the bottom of the first, the Yellow Jackets got on the board in the second as senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) belted a leadoff homer to left for a 1-0 advantage.
  • RMC had base runners in each inning but did not score again until the fifth. Junior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) drew a two-out walk and came home on a double by junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) to make it 2-0.
  • Snelsire dominated on the mound. He allowed a pair of singles and one walk in seven innings.

By The Numbers

  • Senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) went 2 for 2 with a double and a walk, the only Yellow Jacket with multiple hits.
  • Webb reached twice, going 1 for 2 with a walk.
  • Cole also reached twice with a pair of walks.

How It Happened: Game 2

  • As they did in Game 1, the Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard in the second. Sophomore Lincoln Lubsen (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) had a leadoff single and scored on a homer to left by sophomore Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School), his second of the season, as RMC took a 2-0 lead.
  • After the Golden Wolves plated one in the top of the third, the Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the frame. Iannuzzi had a leadoff double down the left field line and came home on a single by Cole to make it 3-1.
  • AU tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth to level the score at 3-3 before RMC took the lead for good in the sixth. Harvey worked a leadoff walk and scored on a homer off the foul pole in left by sophomore Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley), his first collegiate dinger, as the Yellow Jackets took a 5-3 edge.
  • Webb started the seventh with a base hit and came home on a sacrifice fly by Johnson to extend the lead to 6-3. The Golden Wolves added a run in the ninth and stranded two, making the final 6-4.
  • Senior lefty Brennan Tyznar (Bon Air, Va./Trinity) took the mound with two on and two away in the fifth and coaxed a groundout to keep the game tied at 3-3.
  • Sophomore Bere Bauers (Devon, Pa./Devon Prep) earned the win in relief, going three scoreless innings with one hit, one walk and five strikeouts.
  • Junior Cole Stamm (Irvington, Va./Middlesex) pitched the ninth and worked out of trouble to strand a pair in the ninth to record his second save with a pair of strikeouts.
