How It Happened
• Camden got off to a great start as Danny Vazquez singled to right center with one out. After a fly out, Jack Murphy launched a two-run homer to left, putting the Raptors up 2-0. York cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first as Gabe Trevena had an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. He scored when Andrew Santarpia singled to center for the RBI.
• Rutgers-Camden tacked on two runs in the third as the Spartans aided the uprising with a pair of errors. The Raptors scored their first run on a throwing error and then Murphy had an RBI single to make it 4-1. Vazquez added an RBI single in the fourth inning as the Camden lead grew to 5-1.
• The Spartan offense woke up in the fifth as Garrett Kile singled to open the frame. He moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a rocket double off the right field wall by Robby Elzinga. Trevena plated Elzinga with a double to deep center to make it 5-3. Michael Tinneny stroked York's third straight double, this one down the right field line to score Trevena. Santarpia tied the game on a single to left as York was right back in the game.
• The Spartans took their first lead of the day when Trevena led off the bottom of the seventh with a no-doubt-about-it solo homer deep over the left field wall. The Spartans then loaded the bases with three straight singles. The bases wouldn't stay loaded long as Bryce Shaffer launched a triple off the centerfield wall, clearing the bases and giving York a 9-5 lead. Chris Betler plated Shaffer with a single to center for the 10-5 lead. Later in the inning, Tinneny was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score a sixth run in the frame.
• While the offense was getting rolling the pitching staff shut the Raptors down over the final five innings of play. Camden had four base runners over the final five frames with three singles and a hit batter as they struggled against the Spartan staff.
