MC Sweeps Doubleheader Against Bob Jones

MARYVILLE – Maryville's winning ways continued Saturday as the Scots picked up victories in both ends of a doubleheader against Bob Jones at Scotland Yard.

MC outscored the Bruins 18-1 in 14 innings of play, winning Game 1 with a score of 11-1, ending the game due to the run rule after a Christian Carlton single scored two runs and put the Scots ahead by 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Game 2 was scheduled for seven innings and the Scots wasted no time putting runs on the board. They scored four runs in the first inning and put up at least one in four of their six trips to the plate.

The Scots bats picked up 17 hits across the two games but it was Maryville's pitchers that shined in the twin bill.

Kyle Timko

Bryce Leonhardt (3-0) picked up the win in Game 1, pitching five innings and allowing one run on just three hits and a walk while striking out a season-high nine batters.

Chris Arbuthnot and Zach Hodge each pitched an inning in relief to close out the game. The duo did not allow a run, giving just one hit and striking out three batters. For Hodge, a freshman, this outing marked his first collegiate appearance.

In Game 2, Kyle Timko (2-0) got the starting nod for Maryville. The Freshman did not allow a runner to reach base through his first 2 2/3 innings before the Bruins' Isaiah Brandt picked up a bloop single for Bob Jones' first hit of the game. Timko picked up the win in the contest, finishing with four scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking
out two.

Mitchell Grannan came on in relief of Timko and closed out the game for the Scots. The Sophomore pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out exactly half of the Bruins he faced, with seven punch outs.

Carlton was the star for MC's offense on Saturday, reaching base safely in seven of his nine plate appearances. In his first two appearances of the day, the righty worked a full count, fouling off multiple pitches in both at-bats before drawing a walk. In his final three at-bats of the game, Carlton picked up singles. On the day he went 4-for-6 with three RBIs, a run scored, and three walks.

Christian Carlton

Gabriel Lopez and Jimmy Meredith each scored four runs on the day, picking up two in each end of the twin bill. Lopez finished the day 2-for-8 with two doubles, two RBIs, four runs scored, and a stolen base. Meredith went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and four runs scored.

Maryville improves to 11-0 on the season with the sweep. The Scots have a couple of days off before returning to action on Tuesday, as they host Berry in a mid-week matchup at Scotland yard. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
