Stossel and Brewer Homer As Baseball Tops Dean 14-6

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Shane Stossel and Logan Brewer hit home runs and Nico Santoro had four RBI for the Lebanon Valley baseball team in a 14-6 victory over Dean College on Friday afternoon at Centennial Park in Port Charlotte.
 
Dean (1-6) got on the board first with two runs on one hit in the top of the second. LVC (3-6-1) responded with a big three-run inning in the bottom half. Stossel led off the inning with a double and then Andrew Miles singled to put runners at the corners. Luke Blair knocked in Stossel with the first run of the inning before Dave Mangold hit a two out two-RBI double to center scoring Blair and Ryan Murphy. The Bulldogs scored twice in the third to retake the lead at 4-3. Once again, the Dutchmen came back in a big way with six runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning. Jace Fetterman worked a walk to lead off the inning and then Stossel blasted a shot to left to give LVC a 5-4 lead. Santoro added to the lead with a three-run double to left before scoring on a Duncan Weir single.
 
The score remained the same until the fifth when Santoro drove in Blair on a two-out single to center. The Dutchmen tacked on three more runs in the sixth as Blair tripled to right center to plate Miles and Fetterman and then scored on a Ryan Murphy groundout. Dean scored twice in the seventh on three hits before LVC rounded out the scoring in the eighth on a pinch-hit home run by Brewer.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • Santoro had four RBI on two hits while also making four assists in the field.
  • Stossel had two hits, two RBI, two runs scored and walked once.
  • Blair knocked in three runs on two hits and scored four times.
  • Murphy and Fetterman scored two runs each.
  • Conor Smith earned the win on the mound pitching 4.1 innings in relief. He struck out two and walked none.
  • Jeremy Tuz struck out four while facing five batters.
  • Ryan Pickle pitched a perfect ninth with three strikeouts on 10 pitches.

Up Next
The Dutchmen will close out the week in Florida with two games tomorrow. LVC will play Heidelberg for the second time this week at 9:30 a.m. before finishing the trip with sixth-ranked Baldwin Wallace University at 1 p.m.
