Keystone Collects First Wins of 2023; Defeats MSMC & Rutgers-Newark

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Keystone College baseball team earned its first two wins of the season on Monday, defeating Mount Saint Mary College 10-5, followed by a 10-6 win over Rutgers-Newark.

The Giants (2-4) will square off against Clarkson University tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

Game One: Keystone 10, MSMC 5

The Giants plated three runs in the fifth and five in the seventh, outhitting the Knights 13-10 in Monday's opener.

Anthony Raimo (Albany, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) had the hot bat, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, including a pair of home runs. Raimo launched a three-run shot in the fifth, followed by a solo blast in the eighth.

Jason Thomas (Miami, Fla./Barbara Goleman) finished 3-for-4 while Greg Verano (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) went 2-for-3.

Nathan Hinkley (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Lucie West Centennial) earned the 29th win of his career, tying the program record with Jeremy Pierson (2002-06). The righty struck out eight in five frames, including striking out the side twice in the first and third innings.

Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Tyler Mullen (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) appeared in relief, with Sorrentino fanning four Knights.

Game Two: Keystone 10, RNU 6

Trailing 6-3, the Giants plated seven runs total in the seventh & eighth innings, with six in the eighth, to earn the come-from-behind win.

Giovanni Diaz (Bronx, N.Y./Christopher Columbus) enjoyed a 3-for-3 day with four runs and three RBI, including solo homer in the seventh. Diaz came through with a two-run single in the eighth.

Thomas went 1-for-3 with a two-run single in the eighth.

Dominic Verrastro (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) earned the start but was limited to two innings due to a weather delay. Slothing Che (Santo Domingo, D.R./Instituto Tecnologico Fabio Amable Mota) pitched four scoreless and hitless innings. Nick Termini (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) and Logan Lixie (Tamarac, Fla./J.P. Taravella) appeared in relief, with Lixie earning the win, tossing 2.2 innings without allowing a base runner. Lixie induced seven ground outs.
