The University of Mary Washington baseball team used a balanced offensive attack and quality pitching and defense to defeat Bridgewater College, 7-3, on a chilly Tuesday at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles improve to 14-5 overall, and run their win streak to eight straight.
After Bridgewater scored a run in the first, UMW responded with two to win the inning. Jacob Christenbury led off with a double, and scored on a single by Ty Lowe. Lowe would score on an RBI single from Ryan Schwarz.
UMW added three runs in the second. Andrew Gerhardt led off with a double, and scored on a single by Cooper Fulton that included a throwing error. Christenbury plated Fulton with a single, and scored on an error.
UMW added two runs in the fourth, as Jonathan Sedmak singled and scored on an error, and Bobby Ayscue scored on a balk.
Christenbury and Gerhardt led the offense with a double and single, while Sedmak, Lowe, and Fulton each had two singles. Freshman Ryan Northup gained the win, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings on five hits, with three walks and a strikeout. Freshman Jackson Beale gained the save, allowing no runs on two hits in 3.2 innings of relief, with no walks and four strikeouts.
UMW will host SHenandoah University on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
