VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) delivered a two-run single with two away in the top of the 12th and junior Cole Stamm (Irvington, Va./Middlesex) tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief as the 12th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team edged Virginia Wesleyan 7-5 in ODAC action on Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • Junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) had a leadoff single in the top of the 12th and went to second on a groundout by senior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby). Sophomore Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) was hit by a pitch to put two Yellow Jackets on base. Webb went to third when sophomore Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) flew out to right. Sophomore Lincoln Lubsen (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) walked to load the bases. Johnson went the other way and deposited a single into left field to bring home Webb and Lautenschlager, giving RMC a 7-5 advantage.
  • Stamm got a strikeout and two groundouts in the bottom of the 12th to pick up his first win of the season. He entered the game with the winning run on second and one away in the bottom of the ninth. Stamm got a strikeout and flyout to end the threat. Stamm retired all 11 batters he faced with four strikeouts.
  • After two scoreless innings, the Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the top of the third. Junior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had a two-out single, stole second and came home on a base hit by senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) to make it 1-0. Iannuzzi went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Webb to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • The Marlins used a pair of homers in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 advantage. RMC got one back in the fifth. Johnson had a bunt single and scored on a double by Iannuzzi to make it 5-3.
  • Cole had a leadoff homer in the sixth that made it a one-run contest at 5-4.
  • RMC eventually tied it in the eighth as Webb went deep with one away to level the score at 5-5..
