GLASSBORO, NJ – Anthony Schooley drove in a career-high five runs and Karson Harcourt had three RBI as #10 Rowan (13-3) won its eighth straight, defeating visiting Swarthmore, 15-2, in non-league baseball action. Righthander Matt Choi earned the win in six innings of work.
Schooley was 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly to post five RBI, with Harcourt going 2-for-4 at the plate. Ryan Murphy and Pat Defeciani crossed the plate three times each with Tyler Cannon, Chris Curcio and Marco Mannino scoring two each. The Profs totaled 19 hits in the game, but no extra-base hits.
Choi (3-0) allowed just three hits and posted five strikeouts with Ryan Iovine, Charlie Russell and Braden Waller closing out the game with an inning each.
Rowan jumped out to a 6-0 lead starting with a two-run single from Dylan Maria to score Murphy and Cannon. Schooley followed with his first RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly to bring home Defeciani, followed by a single from Phil Sedalis that scored Maria, which chased Swarthmore starter Rohan Cheruk (1-2). Harcourt drove in the final two runs with a single to allow Sedalis and Curcio to cross the plate as the Profs faced three Garnet pitchers in the inning.
Schooley drove home two more runs in the second to give the Profs an 8-0 lead.
Swarthmore (10-9) got its only run off Choi in the third when Benjamin Buc single and advanced around, scoring on a Prof error.
Rowan added a pair in the fourth on a two-run single by Schooley, that scored Defeciani and Murphy. In the fifth, Jason Morgan singled and eventually scored on a passed ball, while Cannon got on base and advanced to score on Defeciani's single.
Sedalis drove in Mannino in the sixth and Mason Dorsey drove in Curcio on a fielder's choice. After Swarthmore added one more in the seventh, the Profs closed out the scoring in the bottom half of that inning as Harcourt brought home Mannino.
Rowan heads to #2 Salisbury for a Top 10 showdown on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and then returns home to open NJAC play with a doubleheader against William Paterson on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
