LOS ANGELES — Cal Lutheran baseball won both games on Saturday, sweeping the series with Occidental. The Kingsmen won game one, 13-1, and game two, 12-4.
The Kingsmen improved to 9-2 in SCIAC play and are 15-7 overall.
Game One
Luke Wechsler pitched a complete game, Max Heverly hit a grand slam, Sebastian Smith smashed a two-run home run, and Jalen Parks added a solo shot.
Wechsler pitched his second complete game as the Kingsmen got the mercy on Occidental after 7 innings. He struck out six Tigers and only gave up four hits and just one earned run.
Heverly led the way with four RBI, Brendan Durfee and Smith were next with two and Sean Blandino, Zach Lafata, and Jalen Parks all added one.
The Kingsmen jumped all over the Tigers and scored six runs in the top of the second. Heverly's grand slam capped off the second.
After the Tigers scored one in the fourth, the Kingsmen responded with two in the fifth and five in the sixth. Wechsler and the defense did the rest as Cal Lutheran took game one.
Game Two
John Frazier got the start and went 4.1 innings. He gave up eight hits and four earned runs. Tristan Dupont came in for the next 1.2 innings and only gave up two hits. Max Kendall pitched the final 3.0 innings and only allowed two hits.
Occidental took a quick lead scoring one run in the first inning. The Kingsmen responded with four runs in the second and three in the third. The Tigers cut the lead to two with three runs in the fifth. Cal Lutheran put the finishing touches on the game with four runs in the eighth and one in the ninth.
Heverly hit another home run, this one being a three-run shot. Kyle Reuser added a solo shot. Heverly and Quinn had three RBI each and Blandino, Parks, Reuser, Durfee, and Lafata each added one.
The Kingsmen continue the season on Monday. Cal Lutheran hosts Bethesda at 3 p.m.
