ETBU UPENDS MCMURRY IN LEAGUE DOUBLE-DIP

More news about: McMurry

ABILENE, TEXAS – Sophomore outfielder Casey Turner (Kingwood, Texas) delivered a pair of hits and scored a run in the opener, and four McMurry University hitters tallied two hits apiece during the nightcap Saturday, April 1.

Unfortunately, for the home fans gathered at Walt Driggers Field and the head coach Josh Lee's McMurry University War Hawks, those efforts weren't enough to overcome a white-hot East Texas Baptist University offense. The American Southwest Conference leading Tigers picked up from their late rally in game one of the weekend series, plating runs in all but five of the 15 innings en route to 11-1 and 14-1 triumphs.

McMurry (11-15 overall, 6-9 ASC) was on the verge of getting a fast start in the three-game set finale. The War Hawks posted a pair of hits in the first and third innings but couldn't push any tallies across. Sophomore outfielders Koy Carpenter (La Vernia, Texas) and Xavier Escobar (Buda, Texas), freshman infielder Riley Hood (Abilene, Texas), and junior shortstop Blake Beach (Atascocita, Texas) each clouted two singles.

The War Hawks look to rebound with a trip to Alpine, Texas, for an ASC series against Sul Ross State University Thursday and Friday, April 6 and 7. Start times are 7 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. Friday at SRSU's Kokrenot Field.
