YORK, Pa. – The second-ranked Salisbury University baseball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a 13-1 victory over the York (Pa.) Spartans on Tuesday afternoon at Jaquet Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cameron Hyder led off the top of the first inning with a double, then Luke Weddell walked to put two men on. Three batters later Ben Anderson legged out a two-out infield hit to lead the bases, and Stephen Rice snuck a grounder through the left side for a two-run single to put the Sea Gulls up 2-0 early.
  • The Spartans answered with one in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back doubles put men on second and third with nobody out, then two batters later Andrew Santarpia hit into an RBI groundout to get York on the board and within 2-1.
  • In the second, Dom Frigiola powered a one-out solo home run to center. Hyder reached on an error and stole second, then Weddell brought him home with a bloop double to left to make it 4-1.
  • Kavi Caster singled to advance Weddell to third, then Weddell scored as Caster stole second and the ball sailed into the outfield. Danny Sheeler hit into a sac fly to plate Caster, then Anderson singled and Rice belted a two-run homer to center to cap the six-spot and build the SU lead to 8-1.
  • SU tacked on two more in the third as Weddell hit into a sac fly and Frigiola scored on an error to make it 10-1.
  • Salisbury loaded the bases with no out in the fifth, and Weddell dunked a two-run single into right to boost the lead to 12-1.
  • Adam Tommer added a ninth-inning solo homer for good measure, giving the game its final 13-1 margin.
