Recchia & The Scarlet Raiders Cruise Past Rutgers-Camden, 8-1

More news about: Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, NJ | Eric Recchia was the catalyst in this afternoon's New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win over Rutgers-Camden. Recchia finished 2-for-3 from the plate with 3 RBIs but was also active in the field making diving grabs to prevent runs from scoring. Rutgers-Newark took down their counterparts from the south, 8-1, to improve to 18-5, 2-1 while Rutgers-Camden fell to 14-8, 1-2.

Gilroy Prial finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI while Robert Gonzalez also added a pair of hits and an RBI. Jon Rosado was patient at the plate and tallied three walks and one RBI on one hit. Daniel Reardon (3-0) remained unbeaten after six innings of action where he struck out two batters.

Gonzalez put the Scarlet Raiders on the board first after singles by Prial and Recchia. Gonzalez would reach first on a fielder's choice allowing Prial to cross the dish and open Rutgers-Newark's scoring ledger. The Scarlet Raptors tied the game up in the top of the 4th before the Scarlet Raiders scattered seven runs over two innings.

After Armando Alvarez and Rosado walked, Recchia hammered a ball to the warning track in right field for a 2 RBI double to put the Scarlet Raiders ahead for good. In the next inning, the Scarlet Raiders continued to have success as they scored five runs on five hits, leaving just one runner on the bases.

Rutgers-Camden was unable to get their bats going as the relief pitching by the Scarlet Raiders held them to just two hits in the final three innings.
