ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Logan Smith (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) went 4 for 5 with a double, a homer, three runs and three RBI as the 12th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team posted a 12-4 victory over Marymount on Thursday afternoon.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 12, Marymount 4

Site/Venue: Ashland, Va. / Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park

Records: RMC 21-5, MU 13-11

How It Happened

  • The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the first. Junior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had a leadoff single to center and moved to second on a base hit to left by senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby). Myers would come on a fielder's choice by junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) to give RMC a 1-0 edge.
  • RMC put up a crooked number in the second. Senior Brooks Mazey (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) had a leadoff single and went to third on an errant pickoff throw. He was forced to leave the game and was replaced by junior Richie Dudley (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson). Smith had a one-out single that brought in Dudley. Smith went to second when junior Greyson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) reached on an error and scored on a base hit by Myers. Bush stole home on the front end of a double steal and Myers scored on a sacrifice fly by Iannuzzi as the lead grew to 5-0.
  • After the Saints scored twice in the top of the third, the Yellow Jackets got one back in the bottom of the frame as Dudley had a one-out double and came home on a single by senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) to make it 6-2.
  • The Yellow Jackets put up another four in the fifth. Webb had a leadoff triple and a walk to sophomore Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) put runners on the corners. With one away, a single by Johnson brought in Webb. A base hit by Smith loaded the bases. Bush singled to drive in Harvey, Myers singled to plate Johnson, and Iannuzzi delivered a sacrifice fly to knock in Smith as the advantage ballooned to 10-2.
  • Dudley doubled and scored on a two-bagger by Smith in the sixth, and Smith homered in the eighth for a 12-2 lead. MU got two runs in the ninth to make the final 12-4.
  • Senior Devin Miles (Moseley, Va./Cosby) earned the win in relief, allowing one hit over 3.0 scoreless innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
