BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Junior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had five hits, including a home run, three runs and three RBI, senior Anthony Farmakides (Falls Church, Va./McLean) had two pinch hits to knock in five, and the bullpen allowed one run in 9.1 innings, as the 12th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team swept an ODAC doubleheader at Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened: Game 1

  • The Yellow Jacket offense started quickly. Myers had a leadoff single and senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) followed with a home run to center, his fifth of the season, as RMC took a 2-0 edge. Senior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) had a one-out single, went to second on a groundout, stole third and came home on a base hit by sophomore Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) as the lead grew to 3-0.
  • RMC added to its lead in the third. Cole had a leadoff single and was out at second on a fielder's choice by junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby). Webb stole second, went to third when Lautenschlager reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Logan Smith (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • The Yellow Jackets put up a crooked number in the fourth. Myers had a leadoff homer, his first of the year, to make it 5-0. Iannuzzi tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) to raise the advantage to 6-0.
  • RMC kept the scoring going in the fifth. Lautenschlager reached on an error, went to third on a single by Smith and scored on a base hit by senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) to increase the lead to 7-0.
  • After the Eagles put up one in the bottom of the fifth, the Yellow Jackets answered in the sixth. Schmitt drew a leadoff walk, went to second on a walk to Lautenschlager and scored on a base hit by Smith to make it 8-1.
  • Senior Hayden Snelsire (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) pitched the first five innings and struck out seven.
  • RMC added to its lead in the ninth. Smith had a leadoff single and scored on a two-bagger by junior Richie Dudley (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson). A pinch-hit single by sophomore Aidan Pinto (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) brought home Dudley to make it 10-1. Iannuzzi walked and freshman Nathan Chen (South Riding, Va./Freedom) had a pinch-hit base hit to load the bases. Farmakides cleared the bases with a single to push the advantage to 13-1. BC added a run in the bottom of the ninth to make the final 13-2.

How It Happened: Game 2

  • RMC again started the scoring in the first. Iannuzzi had a one-out single, went to second on a base hit by Schmitt and moved to third on a walk to Cole. Webb singled to drive in Iannuzzi and Schmitt to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead.
  • After the Eagles tied it in the third, RMC answered in the fourth. Cole had a leadoff single and went to third on a base hit by Webb. Lautenschlager delivered a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Cole to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 edge.
  • BC put up two more in the bottom of the fourth, but the Yellow Jackets responded in the fifth. Junior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) reached on an error and went to second on a wild pitch. Iannuzzi walked, and he and Bush pulled off a double steal. Bush scored on a wild pitch and Iannuzzi came home on a single by Schmitt as RMC took a 5-4 lead. Following a pitching change, Cole belted a homer to right, his sixth of the season, to push the lead to 7-4.
  • RMC kept the scoring going in the sixth. Johnson was hit by a pitch and went to third on a single by Bush. An infield hit by Myers brought home Johnson to make it 8-4.
  • In the eighth, Bush and Myers walked to start the inning. Bush went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Iannuzzi as the score went to 9-4.
  • Webb had a leadoff walk in the ninth and went to second on a balk. Sophomore Lincoln Lubsen (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) doubled to drive in Webb and make it 10-4. Johnson and Bush walked to load the bases. Myers singled to right center to plate Lubsen as the lead grew to 11-4. Iannuzzi walked to force in Johnson, making it 12-4. A single by Schmitt brought home Bush and Myers to extend the lead to 14-4. After a walk to Cole, Farmakides singled to knock in Iannuzzi and Schmitt, making it 16-4.
