Babson Park, MA --- The WPI baseball team fell in a pair of games at Babson on Saturday afternoon dropping game one by a 9-2 margin before falling 10-3 in game two.

Babson improves to 14-8 overall and 4-1 in NEWMAC action with the sweep while WPI drops to 11-12 and 1-4 in conference play.

Jeffrey Brennan (Amsterdam, NY) put together a 2-for-4 outing in game one, scoring a run while a trio of Engineers, Brennan, Danny Johnson (Mendon, MA) and Jake DelMonte (Southington, CT) finished with a pair of hits in game two.

GAME ONE

The Engineers got on the board first in the first inning, putting both of their runs of the game up on the board early on. Brennan started things with a double to left center followed by a Jacob Hand (Niskayuna, NY) walk to put a pair of runners on, setting up Kyle Johns (Milltown, NJ) who sent a shot to centerfield that brought home Brennan.

Following Johns' blast, Johnson sent another shot to center that resulted in a sacrifice fly that brought home Hand for the 2-0 lead.

But from there on out it was all Beaver. Babson answered WPI's call, adding three of their own in the bottom half of the inning to gain the lead. The Beavers added another run in the third, two runs in the fourth and another trio of runs in the fifth as their nine unanswered resulted in the 9-2 victory.

Joseph Peregrim (Watervliet, NY, 1-3) got the start for the Engineers, going 4.2 innings and allowing nine hits, seven earned runs while walking two and striking out three. He went up against Tim Noone (Needham, MA, 3-1) of Babson who pitched seven innings in the victory allowing just four hits, two runs and struck out 10.

GAME TWO

Babson got the first run of the day on the board in the first inning, added another in the second and a trio of runs in the third to garner a 5-0 lead before the Engineers were able to get on the board in the top of the sixth inning.

Tommy Burns (Morris Plains, NJ) began the inning with a single to center and moved up to third on a single to right from Hand. A groundout to third base from Jack Zawacki (Pittsford, NY) brought home Burns to erase the shutout bid and make it a 5-1 game.

But Babson responded with another run in the sixth and added three more runs over the seventh and eighth inning to build up a 10-1 lead.

WPI did not go down easily as Brennan started the rally with a single up the middle followed by a single through the left side from Johns and a single to left field from DelMonte to put another run on the board. Jonathan Lattimer (Windsor, CT) kept the single party going, this time to right field to bring home Johns but that was as close as the Engineers would be able to get dropping the decision 10-3.

Everett Wonson (Wenham, MA, 2-1) picked up the loss on the day pitching four innings, allowing eight hits, five runs, but only two earned, walking one and striking out four. Anthony St. John (Hopewell, NJ ,4-0) remained undefeated on the year with a seven inning, six hit outing with just one earned run and five strikeouts on the day.
