RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- After a big day on their home field after a Wisconsin Lutheran sweep, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars secured another victory after downing the North Park Vikings 11-4.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • Tyler Krater (Phoenix, Ariz.) went three-for-three on the day with one RBI.
  • Tyler Dorsch (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Elijah Hickman (Rensselaer, Ind.) each drove in two runs each, going two-for-five and two-for-three at the plate, respectively
  • Christian Jacob (Scottsdale, Ariz.) pitched six complete innings for the Cougars, picking up his first win of the season with a new season-high four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the sun shining bright, the Cougars got underway with Jacob on the mound. With two full innings of three up, three down the game remained scoreless until the Vikings got things going offensively in the top of the third. As the Cougars continued to play down for another two innings, the fire reignited and the Cougars got hot again.
  • Krater jumpstarted things for the Cougars with a single up the middle before Brandon Mahler (Vernon Hills, Ill.) would send a long ball to left center to move Krater into scoring position. Jaime Sandoval (Oak Lawn, Ill.) loaded the bases up after a perfectly placed bunt and Hickman's walk would drive in the first run of the day.
  • As Jacob sent a long ball to right center and picked up a triple, the Cougars evened things at three runs apiece. Dorsch singled through the left side on the next at bat, scoring Jacob and giving the Cougars the lead for the first time of the day.
  • Holding the Vikings for another inning, the Cougars got back behind their bats and went to work. Sophomore Michael Kasik (Chandler, Ariz.) sent a ball to the left field corner and picked up a double before a single to the left side from Mahler would score Kasik.
  • Hits from Sandoval, Hickman, Dorsch, Garry Maynard (Oswego, Ill.), and Krater would help contribute to the seven runs the Cougars would put up in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sergio Vazquez Jr. (Concord, Calif.) would see his first at bat of the game and with a sacrifice fly out to left field, pick up his lone RBI of the day.
  • Holding the Vikings scoreless for another two innings, freshman left-handed pitcher Tyler Pritchard (Manhattan, Ill.) would pitch two complete innings without giving up a hit and securing two strikeouts.
  • Giving up one final run in the top of the ninth, the Cougars were able to secure the 11-4 win after back-to-back outs from the field closed the game.
