GALLOWAY, N.J. – The second-ranked Salisbury University baseball team shook off a weeklong layoff and extended its winning streak to 10 games, downing the Stockton Ospreys, 12-4, on Tuesday afternoon at Stockton Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Ospreys drew first blood in the first inning. Tucker Elder reached on an error to lead off, then Jordan Nitti doubled to put men on second and third. Kevin Novobilsky hit into an RBI groundout, then Max Kaplan singled home Nitti to put Stockton up 2-0.
  • Danny Sheeler went yard to straightaway center to lead off the top of the second and cut the Sea Gull deficit in half. Later in the inning with one out and the bases loaded after two walks and a hit batsman, Dom Frigiola tied the game with an RBI fielder's choice, then Cameron Hyder dropped an RBI bloop single into right to put Salisbury on top 3-2.
  • In the third, Luke Weddell led off with a base hit and Kavi Caster doubled him home. Sheeler drew a walk and the two executed a double steal, with Caster scoring on a bad throw from the catcher. Two batters later Sheeler scored on an error at short to make it 6-2.
  • Ben Anderson doubled to lead off the fifth, then after a walk Jacob Ference snuck a grounder through the left side for an RBI single to boost the Sea Gull lead to 7-2.
  • Stockton put together a two-out rally in the seventh, using four straight singles to put two runs across the board. RBI base-knocks by Nitti and Novobilsky brought the Ospreys back within 7-4.
  • Salisbury answered with a crooked number in the eighth. Ference walked and Scott Cameron was plunked, with both runners moving up on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Adam Tommer then bounced one up the middle for a two-run single to build the lead back to 9-4.
  • With the bases loaded later in the frame, Tommer scored on a wild pitch, then Sheeler brought another home on a sac fly and Caster scored on another wild one to make it 12-4, which it would stay to the 27th out.
