OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University baseball team eclipsed 20 runs for the third time this season on the way to winning its 11th straight game, 27-5 in seven innings, over the Stevenson Mustangs on Wednesday afternoon at Sugar Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tommy Holcomb got the Mustangs on the board in the first inning with a solo home run that made it 1-0.
  • The Sea Gulls answered in kind in the top of the second with five runs. Danny Sheeler doubled to lead off and Ben Anderson singled to put men on the corners. After a sac fly by Stephen Rice brought home Sheeler, Jacob Ference clubbed a two-run homer to left to put Salisbury up 3-1.
  • Scott Cameron kept the second going with a triple and Dom Frigiola singled him home. After Frigiola stole second and took third on the throw, Cameron Hyder hit into an RBI groundout to make it 5-2.
  • Jonathan Brandt plated one for Stevenson in the home second with a solo homer, then in the third the Mustangs got RBIs on grounders by Holcomb and Brandon Perillo to get the home side within 5-4.
  • Rice got one back in the top of the fourth with a solo blast to left center. After a hit batsman, walk and sac bunt put men in scoring position, Hyder ripped a two-run double into center, then two batters later Kavi Caster doubled home Hyder to put Salisbury up 9-4.
  • Dylan Young made it 9-5 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single.
  • Salisbury plated four more in the fifth on an Anderson homer, Frigiola two-run single and a passed ball to go up 13-5.
  • In the sixth, Ference went yard to dead center for his second home run of the game, sparking a seven-run frame. Hyder tagged his second two-run double of the game in the middle of the flourish that built the lead to 20-5.
  • The Sea Gulls put up their second straight seven-spot in the seventh, highlighted by a Zach Geesaman three-run homer and Roman March RBI triple that made it 27-5.
  • At the end of the seventh the teams mutually agreed to end the game, resulting in a 22-run margin of victory for Salisbury.
