PITTSBURGH, Pa.   – The Hilbert College Baseball team recorded the program's first sweep over AMCC foe La Roche University this afternoon and set a new single season win record as they improved to 17-13

The Hawks earned a 5-4 early win before outlasting the Redhawks in the 14-13 night cap victory putting the day to an end with an exclamation point.

Michael Contini pitched his third win in the opening game, and Brendan Walsh posted his eighth save of the season while setting a Hilbert Single Season game finisher record (13).

Thomas Evans set another Single Season record in runs scored (36), Patrick Whelan did the same in runs batted in (36), while Brennen Hediger improved to 4-3 in the night cap.

Game 1:

After the Hawks first two lead-off batters went down in outs, Hilbert manufactured two runs in the top of the 1st.  With bases loaded, Jairo Santos' 2RBI single plated Griffin McAndrews and Patrick Whelan giving Hilbert the early lead.

Michael Contini did a great job on the mound silencing the Redhawks until the 3rd inning.  By the time La Roche scored two, Hilbert held a 4-run lead thanks to Jack Duffek's first home run of the season which knocked in McAndrews in the top of the 3rd. Ryan Ratajczak's ground rule double scored Alex Ellison in the 4th setting the 5-2 margin.

Brendan Walsh relieved Contini in the 5th and went the distance to the bottom of the seventh picking up save number eight this season.  After surrendering two runs, and in a 2-out count, the Hawks intentionally walked La Roche, setting a bases-loaded situation.  Walsh got the next batter to pop out to second base for the win.

McAndrews went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and scored twice as Sebastian Gomez earned two hits.  Duffek and Santos each earned one hit but knocked in two runs apiece.

Michael Contini allowed six hits, two runs, walked two and struck out five through 4.2 innings.  Brendan Walsh struck out three, intentional walked one, gave up four hits that led to two runs in relief, setting a new Single Season record finishing 13 games.

Game 2:

The Redhawks manufactured a 4-run lead before the Hawks scored one run in the top of the 3rd.  Jairo Santos, who singled to get on base, advanced to third and was plated by Patrick Whelan's ground-out.

Hilbert rebounded in the 4th with a four-run inning, thanks to Frank McCabe's 2RBI triple prior to him stealing home. Thomas Evans' RBI double scored Santos lifting the Hawks by one, yet La Roche responded and knotted the game at 5's before Hilbert went back to work.

Evans' 2RBI double and Patrick Whelan's RBI single gave the Hawks a three-run cushion which the Redhawks sliced down by one in the 7th.
Then Hilbert pounded La Roche in the 8th tacking on six runs while three guys stole second.  Alex Ellison, Benjamin Ratajczak, Santos, and Whelan all recorded RBI off hits and McCabe collected an RBI fielder's choice during that rampage.

McTigue continued to shine on the mound facing only three batters in the 8th before the hosts strung together a 7-run, bottom of the 9th rally.  McTigue went six solid innings striking out four, walking one, with eight hits and runs before Blaine Morgan and Ronald Mort shared 9th inning duties for the win.

Santos led in the night cap with four hits and four runs while Whelan led with four RBIs off two hits. McCabe finished with one hit (triple), three stolen bases and three RBIs and Evans' two hits were doubles that combined for three runs batted in.

Hediger struck out one, allowed three hits and four runs over two innings of work in the win.
