Junior Trent Jones (Virginia Beach) added two RBIs for the visiting Tigers (17-15, 9-7), while freshman Sterling Austin (Petersburg) gained the pitching victory against the host Marlins (5-25-1, 4-12-1).

H-SC scored 10 runs on 12 hits with three errors … scoring one run each in the first and second innings, two runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth, one run in the seven and two runs in the eighth. WVU scored one run on four hits with four errors … scoring the one run in the sixth inning.

In the first, sophomore Grayson Harris (Moseley) (1-6) singled to left field to begin the contest and advanced to second base on a single to right field by classmate Jaxon Masterson (Raleigh, NC) (2-5). Senior captain Ryan Boyce (Suffolk) (1-3) then walked to load the bases with no outs, before sophomore Christian Chambers (Midlothian) (RBI) followed with a sacrifice fly RBI to center field to score Harris for an early 1-0 advantage.

In the second, freshman Greer Farr (Southern Shores, NC) (2-4) reached on a one-out single to right field and crossed the plate when Beavers (3-4, 5 RBIs) promptly followed with a run-scoring double to left field to make it a 2-0 contest.

In the fourth, freshman Jacob Miller-Bopp (Barhamsville) drew a walk to begin the frame and advanced to third base on a one-out double to left field by Farr. Beavers then followed with a clutch two-run double to left that plated both Miller-Bopp and Farr to push the advantage to 4-0.

In the fifth, Boyce singled through the right side to begin the at-bat and advanced to second base when Chambers was hit by a pitch, and both runners moved up a base when sophomore Christian Lancaster (Danville) (1-5) reached on a one-out fielding error to load the bases. Beavers then drew a two-out walk to force Boyce across the plate, before Jones (1-3, 2 RBIs) provided a two-run single to center field that plated both Chambers and Lancaster as the Garnet & Grey led 7-0.

In the seventh, Miller-Bopp once-again walked to begin the frame, advancing to third base on a double to center field by Lancaster, and scored courtesy of a ground ball RBI off the bat of Beavers to make it an 8-1 ballgame.

In the eighth, Masterson led off with a single up the middle, advanced to second base when Boyce walked, and both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Freshman Jack Wilson (Petersburg) (RBI) then reached on a fielding error that allowed Masterson to cross the plate, and Boyce scored when Wilson was caught stealing to provide for the final margin.

Austin (2-2) started on the mound for the Tigers and pitched 7.0 outstanding innings, scattering three hits and one run, unearned, with four strikeouts and three walks. It was the finest effort to-date this season for the right-handed pitcher. Senior Justin Woodall (Mechanicsville) tossed a scoreless eighth inning, retiring the three batters he faced via a ground ball, fly ball and a strikeout, in that order. Freshman Hunter Powell (Ridgeway) tossed a scoreless ninth inning in his collegiate pitching debut, yielding one hit with one strikeout and no walks.
