Taylor Dazzles in First Career Start as Rutgers-Newark Takes Down Ramapo, 4-2

NEWARK, NJ | Vince Taylor dazzled the Roadrunners in his first collegiate start as Rutgers-Newark split the season series with Ramapo after a 4-2 road win on Friday afternoon. The win boosted the Scarlet Raiders to 20-11-1, 4-7-1 while Ramapo dropped to 18-13, 5-7. 

The Scarlet Raiders tallied seven hits in the win with Eric Recchia leading the way with three hits. Paul Recchiaused one hit to tally a team-high 3 RBIs. Vince Taylor (6-1) was outstanding in his first collegiate start, hurling seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts. 

After three scoreless innings, the Scarlet Raiders tallied the first runs of the game in the top of the 4th when they plated three runs. Gilroy Prial started the innings with a lead-off single before Eric Recchia and Peter Cortez loaded the bases with singles of their own. Paul Recchia hit a double down the right field line to empty the bases and give the Scarlet Raiders all the runs they would need to win the game. 

Rutgers-Newark added a security run in the top of the 5th before Ramapo cut the lead in half with runs in the 6th and 8th. Conor Baksh and Robert Gonzalez came in the game to keep the Roadrunners off of the scoreboard.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Thursday, April 27 when they travel to Jersey City, NJ to take on New Jersey City University at 3:30 pm.
