MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The top-ranked Salisbury University baseball team fell into an early hole and saw its 14-game winning streak come to an end, falling to the Penn State Harrisburg Lions, 8-2, on Sunday afternoon at the PSH Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions got the first two runners of the first inning on with a hit batsman and a walk, then after a fielder's choice Kevin Lehner put a ball in play for an error at short to bring in a run and establish a 1-0 lead.
  • With men on the corners and no out after two singles to lead off the second, Lucas Floyd brought in another run on an RBI fielder's choice. Later, after an error and double play that put two on with two out, Matt Parks belted a three-run homer to right, boosting the Lion advantage to 5-0.
  • PSH added another in the fourth as Dallas Hite doubled and scored on a passed ball and bad throw from the catcher to make it 6-0.
  • The Sea Gulls got on the board in the top of the sixth. Stephen Rice led off with a double and scored on a Jacob Ference RBI single. After a sac bunt moved Ference into scoring position, Scott Cameron tagged a base hit into center to bring Ference home and get SU within 6-2.
  • The Lions got both those runs back in the home sixth on a solo home run from Floyd and a two-out RBI single by Maddux Ryan, rebuilding the PSH lead to 8-2.
  • Salisbury threatened again in the seventh, putting two on with one out, but an inning-ending double play squelched the rally. SU only put two men on the rest of the way.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Stephen Rice accounted for the Sea Gulls' only two extra-base hits on the day, finishing 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.
  • Jacob Ference and Scott Cameron each went 1-for-4 and tallied an RBI single.
  • Cameron Hyder batted 1-for-3 and broke the Salisbury program record by appearing in his 176th career game, surpassing the old mark held by Mike Celenza '10.
  • Zach Adams (0-2) faced just two batters in his start, hitting one and walking the other; one of those runners scored to hang Adams with the loss.
