Benedictine Logs 34 Hits and 22 Runs in Key Sweep

The Benedictine University baseball team tallied a second straight conference sweep, swinging to 12-3 and 10-1 wins over Edgewood in a pair of key contests that pushed the team closer to clinching a first round bye in the conference tournament.

Benedictine scored in five different innings in the opener, building an 8-0 lead. Jackson Bahn allowed just one hit in six innings of work, striking out eight. Logan Gregorio scored three runs. Kevin Bushnell homered, knocked home a pair and drove home two as Benedictine finished with 17 hits. Brennan Fisher also posted three hits. Cole Wilson doubled twice. Nine different individuals tallied hits in the win with the top five in the order all logging multiple and accounting for 12 hits, eight runs and five RBIs.

The second contest saw Benedictine score twice in the top of the first and plate runs in five different frames while opening a 10-0 lead. Fisher and Wilson notched RBI singles in the first inning. Ryan Doubek finished 4-for-6 out of the leadoff slot. Alex Cameron finished with three hits as Benedictine amassed 17 more in the second game. Nick Kosmetatos threw six shutout innings. Stephen Sewruk notched a scoreless seventh while John Creviston made a relief appearance for the final two innings.

Doubek owns a 21-game on base streak to go with a 13-game hitting streak. Gregorio has logged a hit i 16 straight and reached in 16 consecutive games. Bushnell has now been aboard in 18 straight.
