RAMAPO, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (22-13, 9-6 NJAC) outscored Ramapo (20-15, 7-8 NJAC), 15-4, over the final four innings en route to securing a 15-6 New Jersey Athletic Conference road victory April 27.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Following three scoreless frames from both sides, the Roadrunners broke through in the fourth with a pair of runs.
- Ramapo maintained its two-run advantage until the sixth inning when the Pioneers came up to bat and plated five. Sophomore Tom Radigan drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a single by junior Jake Lutz before scoring on an RBI single by junior Tyler Ruban.
- After the second out of the inning was recorded, graduate student Colin Lombardo walked to load the bases and two runs came in to score once graduate student Steve Yelin ripped a single up the middle to give William Paterson a 3-2 lead. Graduate student Carson Weis then came up and drove in a run on an infield single and the fifth run of the frame later crossed home on a wild pitch.
- The Roadrunners got one run back in the bottom of the sixth to trim the deficit to two (5-3), but the Pioneers came up in the seventh and tallied seven runs. With the bases loaded and one out, Lombardo recorded an RBI single and Yelin followed with a base on balls to extend the lead to four (7-3). Despite the second out of the inning being recorded, four consecutive walks drove in four additional runs before Ruban notched an RBI single to make it a 12-3 game.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Ramapo used four hits to plate three runs and pull within six (12-6).
- William Paterson loaded the bases in the eighth with no outs before Carter drove in a pair on a two-RBI single to center. Junior Elliot Hayward then hit a sacrifice fly to right to push across the Pioneers' third run of the inning and give William Paterson a 15-6 lead.
