ABILENE, TEXAS – A quartet of McMurry University senior pitchers made sure they closed out their collegiate careers with key impacts Saturday, April 29.

Playing for the final time in the solid Maroon and White pinstripe uniforms on their home Walt Driggers Field, Travis Beauchamp (Waco, Texas), Braxton Briones (Iowa Park, Texas), Clayton Banks (Highlands, Texas) and Seth Parriette (Haslet, Texas) shut down a solid Hardin-Simmons University offense that generated 32 runs in the first two games of the American Southwest Conference set. In five innings during a picture-perfect late April afternoon, they allowed just one earned run and four hits over five innings while striking out four.

With that mound effort pacing head coach Josh Lee's squad, the War Hawks offense smashed seven hits, including two doubles, to help produce six runs toward a 6-2 series finale victory. Sophomore infielder Dylan Lee (Hutto, Texas) assisted his upperclassman teammates, lacing three hits with a double added to an RBI and two runs scored line. Another sophomore, outfielder Xavier Escobar (Buda, Texas) drove in two runs with a single down the left field line in the fourth.

Parriette's third career win against no losses added in, with sophomore Adam Trevino (Galveston, Texas) piecing together a superb four innings to a third save of the season with four strikeouts, wound up the year at 14-26 overall and 8-19 in the league. Hardin-Simmons answered a fast home team start in the doubleheader opener with 14 unanswered tallies to win 19-5. Sophomore designated hitter Nolan Scherencel (Arlington, Texas) belted two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs to highlight the offensive attack.
