Redlands Baseball wins series with McMurry

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands baseball team (2-1) split their doubleheader with McMurry University on Saturday with a 9-2 loss and a 6-4 win as they won the series after taking game one on Friday.

Game 1 (2-9)

The Bulldogs got on the board first thanks to Sebastian Mejorado who drove in Luke De Vries on a sacrifice fly, but the War Hawks would score eight unanswered runs through the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth Nathan Miller hit an RBI-single through the left side.

Despite a rough start on the mound, Joe Godoy came in and threw 5.1 innings in relief and struck out nine of the 21 batters he faced as he kept the Bulldogs in it.

Game 2 (6-4)

In the second game the War Hawks jumped out ahead with an infield single in the third before Redlands responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double from Mejorado and a second run scored on an error.

Tyler Preece then singled home Mejorado for a 3-1 lead after three.

Redlands were able to get enough room between themselves and McMurry in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings after De Vries scored on a passed ball, Kaiya Saito drove in Gabriel Ceja, and Jared Anderson scored on an error.

Nathan Buchan came up with a big start as he threw seven two-run innings with eight strikeouts on only 90 pitches. Miles Lu ended the final two innings with two strikeouts as he got the Bulldogs past the finish line.

The Bulldogs host LeTourneau University next Friday and Saturday with game one on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and then a doubleheader on Saturday that starts at 11:00 a.m.
