Union, N.J. (2/16/24) – The Kean University baseball team breezed to a 15-0 win over SUNY Old Westbury on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean (2-1) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first as Phil Marcantonio tripled home two runners, followed by an RBI single from Trevor Coltenback and an RBI double from Brett Hilsheimer. All nine batters had an at-bat in the first inning.
The Cougars added three more in the second as Gianni Marano lined a two RBI double and Marcantonio followed with a sac fly.
Later in the fourth inning, catcher C.J. Tomalavage recorded Kean's first homer of the season, a three run blast, giving Kean a 12-0 lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Cougars collected 19 hits, with nine extra base hits.
Justin Teixeira, Marano and Hilsheimer all had two doubles each. Marano led all players with three hits on the afternoon.
John Chiusano was 1-for-1 with two RBI.
On the mound, Nolan Rowan earned the win after tossing five innings of shutout ball. He allowed two hits and one walk while fanning seven.
