Royals Sweep Sunday Doubleheader with Gettysburg

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Fresh off a rain-shortened day on Saturday, the EMU Baseball team went right back into battle with a Sunday doubleheader against the Gettysburg College Bullets. The Royals broke into the win column not once but twice, winning both seven-inning games by scores of 12-8 and 14-3 to send Gettysburg into full retreat.

Highlights

  • The Royals tallied the first four runs of the game, starting with one in the first off of a Alec Riles single up the middle, followed by three runs in the second courtesy of a Nick Arnold bases-loaded walk, an Ethan Spraker single, and a Riles sacrifice fly. That put EMU up 4-0 after two innings. Gettysburg got one back in the third, bringing the game to 4-1 after three.
  • EMU went on another rally in the bottom of the fourth inning, adding three more runs to their total. Erik Wilkinson singled to center field to plate Spraker. Two batters later, Aidan Miller belted a two-RBI single up the middle, bringing home both Wilkinson and Riles, putting EMU out front 7-1. Gettysburg fought back with a six-run top of the fifth to tie things up at 7-7.
  • The resilient Royals used the power bats to get ahead for good in the bottom of the fifth. A Logan Mason walk set the stage for Arnold to turn on one to deep left field for his first home run of 2024 and a 9-7 EMU lead. Not satisfied with just one home run in the frame, Matt Harding hammered a three-run homer to left grow the Royals' lead to 12-7. Gettysburg could only muster one run in the sixth, and then Josh Rudd pitched a shutout seventh to seal the EMU win.
