How It Happened
• The Spartans got on the board just three batters into the game to seize the early lead. Gabe Trevena stroked a one out triple to right center and then came home on a Robby Elzinga RBI ground out to short for the 1-0 lead. The Scarlet Raptors answered with a pair of infield singles as a Steven Shaffer drove in the run with an RBI single.
• York responded with a four-spot in the top of the second. Chris Betler reached on an error with one out. He stole second followed by a walk to Brett DeWees and an infield single by Moser to load the bases. After a strikeout, Trevena ripped a double to left center, scoring Betler and DeWees to put York up 3-1. Elzinga drew a walk to reload the bases. Andrew Santarpia stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run single to left, increasing the lead to 5-1.
• York padded the lead in the fifth as Elzinga reached on an error and advanced to second. Santarpia scored Elzinga with an RBI single to center. Santarpia eventually came around to score on a Connor Pickle double down the right field line as the lead grew to 7-1.
• The Scarlet Raptors got an unearned run in the sixth but the Spartans removed all doubt about the results with a huge top of the seventh inning. The Spartans loaded the bases with one out as Elzinga singled, Michael Tinneny was hit by a pitch and Pickle walked. Betler stroked a two-run single to right to make it 9-2. DeWees followed with an RBI single to left to score Pickle for the 10-2 lead. After a fielder's choice, Lucas Prendergast singled to right to score Moser. Trevena closed out the scoring in the inning with an RBI single to center to give York a 12-2 lead.
• The Spartans tacked on a run in the eighth as Tinneny doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk. Rutgers-Camden got a single run back in the eighth on a Ryan Joseph RBI ground out. The Scarlet Raptors closed out the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the ninth to provide for the Spartans final nine run margin of victory.
