Game One: Mount Saint Mary 7, Plattsburgh 6 (8 innings)
The Cards lost a late three-run lead to the Knights in game one and eventually fell 7-6 in extras, as Mount Saint Mary tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to push the game into an extra frame.
Kolby Mordecki (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) was solid for the Cards in his second start of the season, going five innings and allowing just four hits and three runs while striking out three batters. Cremin had the lone multi-hit outing of the game for the Cards, as he homered and doubled and also walked twice. Andrew Veit (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) had two RBI for the Cards while Ben Catrambone (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) and Daniel Novelli (Maracy, Venezuela/Cypress Creek (Fla.)) also drove in runs.
Plattsburgh jumped out to an early lead as Conner Gonzalski (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) doubled to lead off the second and Novelli followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Bass followed with his first college hit to bring home Gonzalksi and walk to the next batter loaded the bases. Veit singled in the next at-bat to score Novelli and Catrambone flew out to center in the next plate appearance to bring home Bass and put the Cards up 3-0.
The Knights responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to tie the game. Leading off the top of the third, Cremin blasted a ball to deep right and over the fence, giving the Cards the lead back with his first homer of the year. The Cards loaded the bases later in the frame and Veit drove in the fifth run of the game for Plattsburgh with a sacrifice fly to center.
Mordecki settled in after a tough bottom of the second and three zeroes in the next three frames, leaving the game with the Cards up 5-3. Plattsburgh added an insurance run with a balk bringing home a run in the top of the sixth to put Plattsburgh up 6-3.
Mount Saint Mary got the run back on the bottom of the frame, going back down by two heading into the final inning. In the bottom of the seventh, an error to begin the inning gave the Knights an extra out to work with and it came in handy, as they tied the game with two outs on an RBI double to center. The game then went final in the bottom of the eighth as the Knights won on a walk-off walk.
Veit took the loss, allowing just one earned run in 1.1 innings of work.
Game Two: Plattsburgh 25, Mount Saint Mary 12
The Cards used a 14-run top of the sixth to overcome a five-run deficit heading into the inning and earn their second win of the season. Despite only 12 hits, the Cards took advantage of 24 walks, six errors, and two HBP as they had plenty of traffic on the bases throughout the game.
Despite just three hits through five innings, the Cards went into the top of the sixth trailing 12-7, having tallied seven runs mostly on walks and errors. In the fifth, Kornblau brought the team within a run with a two-run single before a four-run bottom half put the Knights up five runs.
The sixth began with four straight walks for Plattsburgh, forcing a Mount Saint Mary pitching change, where Mike Rasquin (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) greeted the new Knights' arm with a two-run single to left to bring home two runs. After a HBP and RBI walk, a wild pitch scored Rasquin to tie the game at 12 runs apiece. Gonzalski followed with a single to score Kornblau and give Plattsburgh a lead they would not relinquish. Later in the inning, Adam Wein (North Rockland, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) doubled in two runs, and Jonathan Beale (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) singled in two runs in his first college at bat to put Plattsburgh up 17-12. Rasquin and Kornblau each drove in runs with RBI singles in the following at-bats and Jutice Suafoa (Kinderhook, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) capped the 14-run frame with a two-run double.
The game was eventually called to darkness in the top of the seventh but not before Cremin drove in three runs with a booming double to right to bring the final score of 25-12.
The 25 runs for Plattsburgh were the most in a single game since a 27-17 win over Gallaudet on March 11, 202 in Winter Haven, Florida.
