Ithaca Takes Down No. 21 Arcadia, 6-5, In South Carolina

LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Ithaca College baseball team began its spring break trip with a 6-5 upset win over No. 21 Arcadia University at Lexington County Stadium on March 10. With the win, Ithaca is now 4-2 on the season and has four straight victories after an 0-2 start to the year.

IC fell behind, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning as an error allowed a runner to score from third base, but the Bombers would take the lead in the third inning, 3-1, as Matt Curtis drilled a two-run home run with Collin Feeney on base and Colin Shashaty singled home Ryan Laubscher.

Arcadia responded with two more runs in the bottom of the third to tie things up at 3-3 on a two-run double. Curtis would put Ithaca back in front, 5-3, in the fourth inning with a two-run base hit to plate Feeney and Ethan Rothstein.

The Knights pulled back to within a run at 5-4 in the fifth on a groundout, but an RBI single from Louis Fabbo gave the Bombers a two-run cushion in the sixth and IC held on for the win. Rothstein scored on the base hit.

Colin Leyner earned the win in 7.0 innings of work with three strikeouts. Sean Kelly tossed the eighth inning and struck out one, while John Griffin picked up his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Rothstein was 3-for-3, while Curtis, Feeney, Laubscher and Shashaty all collected two hits in the win.
