AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The William Paterson baseball team (5-8) fell 7-1 to Middlebury (4-5) at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational March 19.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second once the leadoff batter tripled to left center and came around to score on a groundout.
- Middlebury tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth to grab a 4-0 advantage.
- William Paterson scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth after senior Noah Cabassa drew a base on balls and later crossed home on an RBI double to left by junior Austin Jack to trim the deficit to three (4-1).
- The Panthers added three additional runs in the eighth to push the lead to six (7-1).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jack batted 1-for-4 with a double while driving in the Pioneers' lone run of the game.
- Senior Jake Lutz recorded a single.
- Junior Chase Geisler allowed one earned run on six hits in 7.0 innings of work with three strikeouts.
