#25 York (Pa.) Has Eight Game Win Streak Snapped at Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College baseball team had their eight-game win streak snapped as they fell to Penn State Harrisburg 8-3 in non-conference action in Middletown, PA on Tuesday.
The Spartans found out earlier in the day that they cracked the d3baseball/NCBWA poll at number 25. Their first day as a ranked team turned out to be quite unpleasant.
The Spartans fall to 9-2 overall while the Lions improve to 12-5 as they have won eight straight games.

How It Happened
• The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the first on a Carlos Irizarry RBI single with two outs.
• The Spartans took their lone lead of the game in the third. Brett DeWees singled to lead off the inning. Luke Moser singled on a bunt and moved to second on a throwing error by the pitcher while DeWees moved to third. Lucas Predergast plated in York's first run with an RBI single. Gabe Trevena drove in the second run on a fielder's choice. Lion starter Danny Eden got a pair of ground outs to get out of the inning without any additional damage.
• Harrisburg tied the game in the bottom of the third as Joe Licolli doubled to lead off the inning. He eventually came around to score on a Drew Sassaman RBI single.
• The Lions recaptured the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs on five hits. It could have been worse for York but the Lions left the bases loaded at the end of the inning. Harrisburg put the game away in the fifth as they struck for three runs on six more hits as they left the bases loaded for the second straight inning.
• York got one run back in the sixth as Michael Tinneny singled with two outs. He came around to score on a Connor Pickle double to right, cutting the lead to 7-3. Irizarry closed out the scoring with an RBI single for the Lions in the seventh, providing for the final 8-3 score.

York falls to 22-7 all-time against Harrisburg as they have lost four straight in the series … the Spartans tied their season low for runs in a game with three, tying their other loss of the year, a 6-3 setback to Lynchburg on March 3 … York's two extra base hits is tied for the second-lowest total of the year … York struck out seven times, their highest total since game three of the season at Lynchburg … their seven hits ties a season-low … York did not get hit by a pitch for just the second time this year, coincidently the other game without a hit by pitch came in the loss to Lynchburg in game two … the Spartans committed a season-high three errors in the loss … York surrendered a season-high 20 hits to the Lions … York had not allowed more than 11 hits in a game all year … the Spartan pitchers tied a season high with seven strikeouts … in fact, the Spartans have struck out seven in each of their last three games … Spartan pitchers hit a season-high three batters … Chris Betler had his ten game hitting streak snapped while Michael Tinneny and Connor Pickle each extended their hit streaks to eight … Pickle extended his reached base streak to a season-high 11 games thanks to his pair of doubles in the game.

The Spartans return to action on Friday afternoon as they kick off a three-game MAC Commonwealth series against Eastern. Friday's game is set for a 3:30 first pitch. Games two and three of the series will be at Eastern on Saturday with the first game starting at 12:00 pm.
