Keuka College Baseball Downed by Union College

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Keuka College Baseball team lost to Union College 13-2 on Thursday as a part of their spring trip to Florida.

Keuka College (1-9) had four hits in the game. Jackson Loper (Riverhead, N.Y. / Riverhead) and Kyle Wood (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) each had a hit and run scored in the game.

Union College took the early lead as their leadoff batter started the game with a solo home run, but starting pitcher Tanner Olson (Gowanda, N.Y. / Gowanda) settled and got a strikeout to end the inning.

In the bottom of the first, the Wolves got a pair of walks and a single by Kyle Wood to load the bases. The Green and Gold tied the game on a wild pitch but left two on base.

The Garnet Chargers added two runs in the second and third to take a 5-1 lead. Olson settled in following that throwing shutout innings in the fourth and fifth innings.

Union added two runs in the top of the sixth, but the Wolves got one back in the bottom of the frame.  Kyle Wood reached on a fielder's choice, moved around on a wild pitch, and scored on a Union error for the Wolves' second run.

Union put the game away in the seventh as they scored six runs in the inning to defeat Keuka College 13-2.

KC Notes:

  • The Wolves fall to 1-5 all-time, losing their fourth straight to Union College
  • Matt Vaccaro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) singled and walked for Keuka on Thursday. It was the 48th walk of his career, tying for fifth-most in program history
  • Tanner Olson pitched a personal season-high 5.2 innings for the Wolves. The senior struck out four batters, also a season-high
  • Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) added a hit for Keuka in the loss. He has now recorded a hit in his last six games

Up Next for Keuka College: The spring trip will conclude for the Green and Gold on Friday morning as they face the Blugolds on Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. It will be the first time Keuka College has faced the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
