York Erupts for 19 as the Spartans Roll Past LVC

ANNVILLE, PA – The York College baseball team got another big offensive day as they rolled past former MAC Commonwealth foe Lebanon Valley 19-5 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon in Annville.
The meeting is the first as non-conference foes since the Spartans moved to the MAC in 2020-21. The Spartans have now scored in double figures in their last two games and seven times overall this year.
The Spartans improve to 12-4 overall while the Dutchmen are now 9-9.

How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted very little time in getting on the board. In the top of the first, Robby Elzinga reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second with two outs. Michael Tinneny singled up the middle to put York on top 1-0. A Dutchmen error kept the Spartan inning alive and Andrew Santarpia made the hosts pay with a two-run single to give York the 3-0 lead.
• York added to the lead in the second as Connor Pickle singled and moved to second when Brett DeWees was hit by a pitch. Luke Moser followed with an RBI single to score Pickle. DeWees made it 5-0 as he scored on a Lucas Prendergast fielder's choice.
• The Green and White kept the beat going in the third as Tinneny lead off the inning with a double. He moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a Chris Betler RBI single. Betler came around to score when Pickle doubled to center for the 7-0 lead.
• The Dutchmen did all their damage in the third as they got five runs on just three hits. The big blow in the inning came off the bat of Shane Stossel as he blasted a grand slam to left center, trimming the York lead to 7-5.
• The Green and White tacked on a single run in the fourth courtesy of an Elzinga RBI single.
• After a scoreless fifth inning, the Spartans resumed their scoring spree with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, pushing the lead to 10-5. Santarpia had an RBI single in the sixth and Tinneny had an RBI fielder's choice in the seventh.
• The Spartans removed all doubt about the outcome in the ninth as they plated nine runs on eight hits, ballooning the lead to 19-5. Gabe Trevena, Elzinga, Betler (2), Santarpia, DeWees, and Prendergast (2) each had RBIs in the frame.
• While the Spartan offense was rolling, freshman righty Jason Cassidy came out of the bullpen to throw 4.2 innings of shutout baseball. Cassidy, in his longest collegiate outing, allowed just one hit during his time on the bump while he struck out three and did not walk a batter. He faced one hitter above the minimum in his outing.
