• The Spartans extended the lead in the second with a five-run frame. Connor Pickle started the festivities with a lead-off double. Brett DeWees singled home Pickle for run number three. Luke Moser followed with a single. Prendergast then plated DeWees with a single and Moser came around to score on a Trevena single to left. After a flyout, Michael Tinneny singled to right to score Prendergast. Chris Betler was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Andrew Santarpia scored the fifth run of the inning with sacrifice fly to center.
• The offense kept trucking along in the fourth. Pickle started the rally with an RBI triple with two outs. DeWees drew a walk and scored, along with Pickle, on Moser's RBI double. Trevena plated Moser with an RBI single two hitters later.
• While the Spartan offense was clicking, freshman righty Evan Hughes was cruising. Hughes did not allow a base hit until pinch hitter Cory Hatcher doubled with no outs in the bottom of the sixth. The Mustangs broke up the shutout with a Jack Gitterman RBI ground out in the sixth. Hughes finished the game with a career-high 12 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.
• York got a little sloppy in the seventh as Stevenson got three runs on two hits, an error, a walk and a hit batter to provide for the Spartans' final 11-4 margin of victory.
