Brinsfield, No. 4 Baseball bash Hood, 15-1

SALISBURY, Md. – Behind four home runs from the top of the lineup and seven shutout innings from Aidan Brinsfield, the fourth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team opened a busy week with an emphatic 15-1 thumping of the Hood Blazers on Tuesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sea Gulls took control from the downbeat as Andrew Kell golfed a leadoff home run to right center in the bottom of the first inning to give SU a 1-0 lead.
  • In the second, two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases for Mickey Haynes, who drew his own free pass to force in a run. Kell came up next and blasted a grand slam to left for his second dinger of the game. Kyle Brex tagged the next pitch to right for his own solo homer to make it 7-0.
  • Kell picked up his sixth RBI of the game with a bases-loaded walk in the third. In the fourth, Tim Petrucelli got in on the longball craze with a solo shot to right to make it 9-0.
  • Zach Geesaman singled home a run with two outs in the sixth to get the Sea Gulls into double digits at 10-0.
  • SU turned a two-out rally into a four-run seventh on a Brex RBI single, Petrucelli two-run double, and Joey Bowers bases-loaded walk to boost the margin to 14-0.
  • The Blazers' only run of the game came in the top of the eighth as Matthew Stout scored on a mishandled grounder at short off the bat of Keegan Brennan that made it 14-1.
  • The Sea Gulls got that run back in the home eighth on a Kevin Dall sac fly that brought home TJ Morris, giving the game its final 15-1 margin.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Andrew Kell turned in a monster day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs, two walks, three runs, and six RBIs.
  • Tim Petrucelli finished 2-for-5 with a homer, double, run, and three rib-eyes.
  • Kyle Brex belted his first round-tripper of the season, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
  • TJ Morris notched a pinch-hit double for his first collegiate hit and scored a run.
  • Aidan Brinsfield (3-0) spun a seven-inning masterpiece for his third win of the year. Brinsfield scattered two hits across seven scoreless with two walks and three strikeouts on 94 pitches. The outing is the longest of Brinsfield's brief career and ties for the longest by a Sea Gull starting pitcher this season.
  • Aiden Hankins gave up just an unearned run in the eighth inning, while Ben Bennett tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to finish the job.

HOOD GAME NOTES
