Winning streak continues for St. Olaf with rout of Crown

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games and remained unbeaten at home with an 18-4 seven-inning victory over Crown College on Wednesday at Mark Almli Field.

St. Olaf (16-8) scored in all six of its innings at the plate, including five multi-run innings, and matched its season high with 18 hits to cruise to the run-rule victory over Crown (6-12). The win gave the Oles their first seven-game winning streak since starting the 2011 season with seven consecutive victories and improved St. Olaf's record at home to 5-0.

Senior Joey Glampe led the offensive outburst for St. Olaf by going 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, a home run, three runs scored, and a career-high seven RBI. Glampe's seven RBI marked the highest single-game total for an Ole since Sam Stuckmayer '19 drove in seven runs in a 14-13 loss at Concordia-Moorhead on April 3, 2016.

Glampe, who was a triple shy of the cycle, was one of 10 Oles with at least one hit and one of six with multiple hits in the win. Senior Sam Lavin went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBI, and three runs scored, while senior Brian Nevin went 2-for-3 with two walks and four runs scored.

Junior David Scheil held Crown to one run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts over the first 3.0 innings before turning the ball over to a trio of relievers. Senior Derek Hansen collected the win after allowing one run over his 2.0 innings of relief before first years Carter Follman and Sam Hruska worked an inning apiece.

St. Olaf opened up a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first after racking up four hits, with Lavin and Glampe driving in runs with singles in the inning. The Oles ballooned their lead to 8-0 with a five-run second inning highlighted by Glampe's second grand slam of the season. The senior's opposite-field blast was his fourth home run of the season, tying him with Lavin for the team lead.

Crown got on the board with a run in the top of the third before Lavin knocked in Nevin with a two-out double in the bottom of the inning to make it a 9-1 game. St. Olaf tacked on two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth after the Polars got a run in the top of the fifth. Glampe finished off his seven-RBI day with a two-run double in the four-run fifth before the Oles pushed across three more runs in the seventh.

St. Olaf looks to continue its winning streak with a doubleheader at Saint Mary's University on Saturday, April 13. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Max Molock Field in Winona.
