RAMAPO BATTLES BACK IN KEY NJAC SPLIT AT #18 ROWAN

Glassboro, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team earned a key split with #18 Rowan University today on the road in NJAC action. The Profs (16-9, 4-6 NJAC) won game one, 13-2, before the Roadrunners (19-9, 8-2 NJAC) took game two in 11 innings, 4-3. 

Game One
The Profs took a 2-1 lead after three innings of action before they capitalized on Ramapo miscues to score nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 11-1 lead. The Profs added one in the sixth while both teams scored one in the seventh as Rowan led, 13-2. Matt Lalomia and Dominic Ciani drove in one run each for the Roadrunners. Ramapo was held to just seven hits in game one as Lalomia finished 2-3 with one RBI and a double. 

Nick Danbrowney (3-2) took the loss on the mound as he struck out three and surrendered 11 runs while only two were earned in four innings of work. 

Game Two
Rowan took a quick 2-0 lead after one full inning of play before Ramapo scored three runs in the top of the second. John Higgins led off the inning with a walk before Jack Tallent drove him home with a double down the left field line. Jesse Swartout reached on an error and Robert Klawans walked before Christian Alonso drove them both home with a single for the 3-2 lead. The Profs tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run from Anthony Schooley. Both teams had chances to score late in the game as both defenses got out of jams sending the game into extra innings. In the top of the 10th, Ramapo was able to get the game-winning run to second base as Ciani singled and stole second with two outs before Rowan held the 3-3 tie with a flyout to right field. Rowan went down 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning, setting up the eventual game-winning run in the top of the 11th for the Roadrunners. Tallent singled to lead off the inning before Swartout singled with one out. Klawans reached on an infield error to lead the bases before Tallent was lifted for pinch-runner TJ Roman. Cristian Alonso then lifted a sac fly to right field which allowed Roman to slide in safely at home plate for the 4-3 lead. In the bottom half of the inning Ramapo reliever Will Paoli and the Ramapo defense got back-to-back outs before Rowan worked a walk and Dylan Maria singled with two outs. Paoli then induced a strikeout to end the game and earn his second win in as many days.

Paoli (2-2) did not give up a run in 3.1 innings of relief with three strikeouts. James Pazdera started for Ramapo in game two as he struck out six, walked two and surrendered seven hits and three runs in 6.2 innings. Billy Scanlon entered in the seventh and worked one full inning with three strikeouts while he let up just one hit and no runs. Tallent finished game two at the plate 3-5 with one RBI while Ciani and Alonso each collected two hits and Alonso posted three RBI.

Ramapo, who has won 11 of their last 13 games, return to action on Tuesday at Jeff Maund Field against Cairn University for a non-conference game at 3:30pm.
