Maroon Baseball splits with Bridgewater on Senior Day

The Short story: The Roanoke College baseball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Saturday with Bridgewater College, winning the first game 6-5 in 10 innings but falling 6-4 in the nightcap.

The programs 10 seniors were honored prior to the doubleheader.

How it happened (Game 1):
*Kyle Moshier homered in the second inning to open the scoring in game one, and the Maroons followed with three runs in the fourth. Following a sacrifice fly from Nate Prince, Dylan Bonzon doubled to right center to bring in two more.
*The Eagles got on the scoreboard with a single run in the fifth and tied the game on an Ashton Smith three-run homer in the eighth.
*Cayden Freels drilled an RBI double in the eighth but Bridgewater countered with a run in the ninth to send the game to extra innings.
*Tucker Schiavoni hit a walk off single with one out in the 10th.

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Freels had three hits, including two doubles while Schiavoni had two hits.
*Corey Coogan doubled and walked.
*Thomas Burgess threw seven solid innings, allowing just two earned runs, eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts.
*Brandan Hartman and Smith each had three hits for Bridgewater.

How it happened (Game 2)
*After an Eagle run in the first, Smith homered to put BC ahead 2-0 after two.
*Roanoke cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth, but Bridgewater scored four in the seventh.
*The Maroons plated three in the eighth, but had two runners thrown out on the basepaths.

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*Moshier and Freels each had three hits, and Moshier had two RBI.
*Bonzon and Schiavoni each had a hit and a walk.
*Five Eagles had two hits.

Up Next:
*The Maroons (17-15/11-5 ODAC) travel to Greensboro College for a non-conference game Tuesday at 4 p.m.
