#18 RMC Baseball Wins ODAC Regular-Season Title

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Junior Bere Bauers (Phoenixville, Pa./Devon Prep) allowed one hit in seven innings and fanned a career-high 10 while junior Sam Slevin (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank Cox) tied a program record with his eighth save as the 18th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team recorded a 6-3 ODAC win at Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon to clinch the ODAC regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

How It Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets lit the scoreboard in the top of the first. Freshman Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) had a leadoff single, went to third on a base hit by sophomore Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) and scored on a double play as RMC took a 1-0 edge.
  • The Marlins plated a pair in the bottom of the first before RMC responded with two away in the sixth. Senior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) had a two-out single and went to second on a base hit by junior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School). Following a pitching change, freshman Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Senior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) singled to left to knock in Webb with the tying run. Sophomore Jordan Hill (Norfolk, Va./Granby) worked a walk to force in Harvey as the visitors took a 3-2 advantage.
  • The Yellow Jackets added some insurance in the seventh. Sophomore Eli Brooks (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) had a leadoff double and was sacrificed to third by Quici. Schmitt followed with his first home run of the season to put RMC on top 5-2.
  • RMC kept the offense going in the ninth. Webb drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a one-out single by Wernoski to make it 6-2.
  • VWU tallied one in the bottom of the ninth to make the final 6-3.

By The Numbers

  • Under head coach Ray Hedrick, RMC is 16-4 in ODAC play and three games ahead of second-place Roanoke with two games to play after the Maroons suffered an 8-7 loss at Guilford. The Yellow Jackets have won six ODAC regular season crowns and four of the past six (2018, 2019, 2021, 2024).
  • Over the past seven seasons, RMC is 99-28 in conference games for a winning percentage of 78%.
  • The Yellow Jackets are 22-0 when leading after seven innings.

  • RMC pitchers held an opponent to two hits for the second time this season and first time since a 2-1 win in the season-opener victory against Alvernia.
  • Wernoski went 2 for 4 with one RBI. He has reached base in 30 straight games and in all 20 ODAC contests.
  • Schmitt was 2 for 5 with a homer and two RBI. He has reached base in 15 straight games and in 12 straight ODAC contests. Schmitt is tied for the team lead with 16 multi-hit games and with nine multiple-RBI contests.
  • Quici was 1 for 2 with two walks and one run. He has reached base in all 20 ODAC games.
  • Webb went 1 for 4 with a walk and two runs.
  • Harvey was 2 for 5 with one run.
  • Hill walked twice and drove in one run.
